I recently participated in the 2018 Global Talent Search, run by art director/ illustrator extraordinaire, Lilla Rogers. I have taken a few of her classes in the past (Children's Book Illustration and MATS Bootcamp) and had such a blast that I thought I would push myself to do something a little bit out of my comfort zone -- a talent search competition!
Once signed up, initial prompts were released to help warm up the artists and get us ready for the main assignment. We were to sketch the alphabet for one of the assignments, and Sea Anemones for the second. You can see some of my preliminary work here.
The main assignment was to create a Garden Journal cover, using Japanese Anemones and Staghorn Ferns. This was so fun!
Check out my drawing below.
I then took the drawing and created a mockup, so that the viewer would get an idea as to how it would look if printed.
In the end, I wasn't chosen for the top 50, but I am so glad I decided to push myself and submit my work anyway! All experience is good experience, right? Maybe in the future I'll try again :)
